Ok…Real Housewives of New Jersey…Um…ok…

Now, Kathy and Theresa keep saying they are “old school Italians”.  Welp, I am an old-school black person and I have to say, Gia would have gotten slapped on the floor. I totally understand why Jacqueline felt bad. We are now in a world where you can’t discipline anyone’s child.  It is no longer “it takes a village to raise a child”.  It is now “Touch my child and I will kill you!” I get that…to an extent. I get it; Gia is 11 but she is old enough to know when she is being disrespectful to an adult.  And let’s not mince words; she was very disrespectful to Caroline and Jacqueline. You don’t tell an adult “if you don’t like it you can go outside” in THEIR house.  Um, ma’am…get your butt up and leave if you don’t like it! You weren’t glued to the floor.  Did anyone say anything to you when you ran up and pushed the button to dunk someone in the dunk tank? Or did they just laugh it off because they were having fun and that was the point of field day!?

Theresa made the classic “I have a spoiled child” mistake; you chastised an adult in front of your child. If Jacqueline is your friend and she is “like family” like you repeatedly said in the previous seasons, then you should have pulled her aside and said “Jacqueline, in the future, let me handle Gia. Don’t engage; just come get me.”  Gia was sent the message that Jacqueline and Caroline were clearly wrong but for the most part they really weren’t. Even when her own mother tried to talk to her; she didn’t even want to listen. Those kind of children you don’t try to give your dose of parenting; you just don’t deal with them.

On the flip side, I can totally understand why Jacqueline felt bad.  I think I would have felt a little bad too. You don’t want to overstep your boundaries and try to “raise” anyone elses child.  Gia was clearly upset and was not having so much fun and just wanted to be “mommied” by her mommy.  Jacqueline should not have read the book to her (that was a little overkill) because that book is for someone who is WAY younger than Gia.

Caroline and Jacqueline aren’t used to disrespectful children (and you can tell! I can’t say I blame them because I would have just told her to “go and find your mom, she is outside”).

As a viewer, I can sit here and critique the situation but in the end, it will not change what has happened.  Gia said things that you KNOW weren’t exactly her opinion; they were things that she heard her parents saying about her uncle and aunt (or Zio and Zia).

The bright spot in this whole situation: Kathy Wakile.  She keeps demonstrating why she is needed on this show.  Her kind way of dealing with Gia was just what was needed (although, Gia was receptive of her talking to her and trying to calm her down…so that may be why it worked. Gia respects her enough to listen to her because, well, she’s family).

The clash of the titans (Gorgas vs Giudices) really is the center of this show but how long will people REALLY want to keep seeing this?

More to come…
